2022 Shared Savings Results From United and Aetna MA 

Over the past 11 years, VHAN has created $204 million in shared savings for VHAN health plans, resulting in $77 million in shared savings and quality bonuses delivered to members. This achievement is a direct result of our network members’ shared commitment to providing high-quality, low-cost patient care.

Through our collaborative partnership and focus on data-driven approaches to changing care delivery, we are realizing better outcomes and measurable health improvements across the state and region. In 2022, thanks to your efforts, VHAN achieved the following results on United and Aetna MA contracts:

• 100% performance on all Aetna Commercial quality measures for the fourth year in a row.
• Exceeded 100% quality thresholds for United ACO and Cigna CAC contracts.
• Prioritized key health screenings, exceeding 9 of 10 commercial and Medicare Advantage targets in breast, colorectal and cervical cancer screenings.
• Increased pediatric behavioral health screenings from 40% to 84% of eligible patients.

VHAN staff collaborated with some members who participate in the United contract to perform manual attestation, ensuring the network passed the threshold for shared savings. We are grateful to our practices who participated in this effort by providing EMR access, performing chart reviews and supporting VHAN staff in completing chart reviews on their behalf.

These incredible results highlight how network members are collaborating with one another and partnering with payors, employers and brokers to ensure more patients receive personalized care. In the coming months, VHAN will place a greater priority on data exchange and EMR connections to eliminate the need for manual work and ensure more practices get credit for the excellent work they are doing with patients.

As a reminder, there are two distributions for the 2022 performance year. The first was in December 2023 and the second is this month. Receipt of these distributions depends on your practice’s contract participation and performance, along with enrollment in WorkDay, VHAN’s new financial management system.
